Kotatsu | HARUYA Umekouji

At 4 different tastes of 100 years Machiya architecture, “HARUYA Umekouji”, the Japanese winter symbol “Kotatsu” appears in the guest room. We also serve the “orange” standardized to the Kotatsu. The presence or absence of “Kotatsu” can be confirmed in the room photo of our official web site.


Japanese view of nature “warming up”

The word “heating” means to raise the airtightness of the building and warm the entire space. the word “warming” has opposite meaning as the counterpart.
Japanese people appreciate the grace of the rich four seasons. Having a view of nature that has received with the gratitude for nature’s benefit, originally, Japanese people have no intention of controlling nature. There is goodness in “warming up” that we feel the embarrassment of stinking and warmth. It looks like in the shrine, surrounding the bonfire, everyone is putting their hands. In Japanese word, it says “Danran”, the fully enjoyable winter in Japan.

4 different tastes of 100 years Machiya architecture, “HARUYA Umekouji” is. 8 minutes by bus (15 minutes walk) from Kyoto station. Walking distance to two world heritage sites (Toji, Nishihonganji). One way bus stop to Kiyomizu Temple, Gion, Kinkakuji etc. Long-established Kyoto style such as Japanese garden, lattice, round window, edge side are respectfully inherited.
