Wakakusayama Mt., a symbol of Nara, which is lined with deer and great Buddha.
It is a place that is widely loved by from nursery schools and kindergarten children to adults. In January, there is a “Yamayaki” festival which more than 40,000 people visit in one day.
Wakakusayama Mt. is popular for its panoramic view of the ancient city of Nara.
The whole mountain is covered with grass, and it is a mountain called “Mikasayama” because it seems to be piled with three ridges, in Japanese word ‘Mi Kasa’. 7-minute walk from Todai-ji Temple, which is famous for the Great Buddha, and 10-minute walk from Kasuga Taisha Shrine, which is famous for the deer.
In comparison with Mt. Hakuba at 2,932 m in height, Mt. Aso at 1,592 m in Kumamoto prefecture, etc., the Wakasasan at 342 m can be easily climbed even by a 5-year-old girl.
In order to explore the attractiveness of Wakakusayama, which attracts many people both inside and outside Japan, we chose to visit on a sunny day.
The experience of climbing Mt. Wakasayama is very unique.
Starting from the mountaineering entrance next to Nigatsudo of Todai-ji Temple, which is famous for ‘Omizutori’ festival in March and Tamukeyama Hachimangu, which is famous for ‘Hyakuninisyu’
Climb the gentle slope stone steps.
When will such an open mountain come from?
“At the time of the “Isemonogatari”, “Yamayaki” had already been held. ”
What taught me that, “Dainippon Geography Dictionary” by Dr. Togo Yoshida.
We also learned that Wakakusayama appeared under the name “Kasugayama” in “Manyo-shu”.
Wakakusayama, where nature, history, literature, and tumuli is there
A deer is guarded, and in the history, after walking the literary world, there is an old burial mound called Uguisuzuka burial mound.
No advance booking is required for climbing Mt. It is possible for us to come back in about 30 minutes. Feel free to go may be one of the popular reasons.
Wakakusa mountain climbing is not a tour guided by a guide, but is a self-style where climbers choose a course at their own pace and route.
Seeing and touching a figure that is enshrined in “Manyo-shu” will bring interest and attachment to visitors.
Even those from overseas who do not know “Manyo-shu” seem to be moved by all ages, young and old with 1,300 years landscape.
